Mobile vaccination bus to visit Newark Market Place tomorrow

A mobile vaccination bus will visit Newark Market Place tomorrow (Wednesday).

It is to ensure as many people as possible have access to the coronavirus vaccine.

Nine out ten people aged 50 to 65 have taken up their covid-19 vaccine in Newark and Sherwood.

However, there are some areas where take up has been lower. This includes Newark’s Castle ward, where the figure drops to around two out of three people — below the national average and the average for the district.

“This bus is an innovative way of making it as easy as possible for the public to come and get vaccinated,” said Amanda Sullivan, accountable officer for NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

“The mobile vaccination bus will stop off at a number of locations across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to support the uptake of covid-19 vaccinations in targeted areas where we know uptake is lower. The public can book on to these specialist clinics and we would urge those who fall into the priority groups to do so.

“People in the priority groups that have already been announced have not missed their chance to get jabbed. If you haven’t yet taken up the offer, please do come forward and make an appointment — the vaccine is safe, simple, and will offer you and those around you the best protection against this virus.

“It is never too late to change your mind if you have previously said no.”

The mass vaccination centre at Newark Showground has proved successful, reaching over 95% of residents over 65.

By making this new option available for all eligible residents, it hopes it will be easier for people of working age and those older residents who may not have been able to get to the main vaccination sites, to take up their vaccine appointment.

Anyone aged 45 or over or who is eligible for the jab can book an appointment on the bus. There will also be limited capacity for those who haven’t booked to drop in and get their shot.
