Money makers

By Advertiser Reporter

THE decision to reduce Hawton Road in Newark from 40mph to 30mph can be nothing more than a money-making exercise.

It is a wide road with plenty of off-road parking, so the argument that the reduction is to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians seems an odd one.

I have lived in the area for many years and cannot remember an incident on that stretch of road.

However, I feel that could be about to change.

In the couple of weeks since the limit was reduced I have twice been over taken by another car travelling at speed, impatient at my law-abiding 30mph.

I am awaiting the arrival of the ‘safety camera unit’ to cash in on the lower speed limit. It won’t be long before it parks up.

Better enforcement, and an even bigger money maker, would be at Asda where motorists are still regularly making illegal right turns, including a police car recently. — K. MORLEY, Newark (Full address supplied).
