Sherwood Forest MP Michelle Welsh ‘deeply concerned’ by Ollerton firearms incident involving Nottinghamshire Police
An MP has asked the public ‘not to speculate’ following an incident involving police firearms officers overnight.
Nottinghamshire Police responded to a firearms-related incident on Wellow Road, Ollerton, at around 12.10am this morning (October 20), and a police firearm was discharged shortly after 1am.
A 56-year-old man sustained a gunshot injury and was taken to hospital, where he remains under medical care.
Both the injured man and a 32-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause violence. No other suspects are currently being sought, though enquiries continue.
In a statement, Sherwood Forest MP Michelle Welsh, who represents Ollerton, has said she was “deeply concerned by the incident”
Ms Welsh added: “While there is understandable concern locally, I would urge people not to speculate while the facts are established. It's essential that the ongoing investigation is allowed to run its full and transparent course.
“I am in regular contact with Nottinghamshire Police and Newark and Sherwood District Council and will ensure that residents are kept informed as this situation develops.”
