Mr Jenrick said: "Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced that the next election will take place on July 4.

“I’m proud to be the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate in our amazing Newark constituency.

In my decade representing you, I have always campaigned for our local community, putting you - local residents - first. It has been my honour and privilege to serve as your representative.

Mr Jenrick said he had secured record government investment for the area and responded to over 20,000 pieces of constituency casework each year with the help of his team.

He added: “When I was first elected, I made several promises about what I would deliver for my constituents.

“Reflecting on the past decade, so much has been achieved, and I am proud of my record in delivering the pledges I made to you all those years ago. Most of all, I am thankful for the trust and support you have placed in me throughout the last decade.

“It’s been an honour to serve our Nation as a Minister and Cabinet Minister. But I believe principle matters above all else.

“That’s why I resigned from Cabinet last year, when I had profound disagreements on immigration policy. I will always fighting for what I believe is right and take a stand when it is necessary to do so.

“Then and now I refuse to be just another politician who makes promises on the key issues the public care about - like immigration - only to break them. That’s my promise to you.

“I am looking forward to being out on the campaign trail, meeting with you, and discussing how we can continue to make our local area an even better place to live and work.

“Thank you for your continued support.”
