Newark and Bingham MP Robert Jenrick has spoken of his delight at the announcement of the first group of police recruitment targets.

Yesterday it was announced that the Home Office has confirmed that an extra 388 officers will be recruited across the East Midlands region, with Nottinghamshire Police able to recruit an extra 107 officers, and 50 for Lincolnshire Police.

Mr Jenrick said how pleased he was at the news: "I am delighted that Nottinghamshire will be receiving 107 new police officers in the first phase of 20,000 new police officers announced by the Home Secretary.

"These officers hopefully will increase frontline numbers. This is the first phase of allocation over the next three years with hopefully more to come.

"Although there is not an exact amount of numbers coming to Newark, I am encouraged that the Police Chief Constable is deploying these new officers to focus on neighbourhood policing and local investigators.

"I look forward to finding out how the officers are deployed for the benefit of our area."
