Murder case police question two
Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a 26-year-old man who was seriously assaulted in Collingham.
Christopher Johnson of Station Road, Collingham, was assaulted at his home address on Monday morning.
Police and paramedics attended just after 10am and Mr Johnson was taken to hospital with multiple injuries. He died in hospital at approximately 7.20pm last night (Wednesday).
His family were with him at the time and a police family liaison officer has been supporting them since Monday.
A Home Office pathologist will carry out a post mortem later today.
Forensic examinations are still taking place at numerous locations as part of the investigation.
Two men, both aged 21, are currently being questioned in connection with the incident.
The Newark and Sherwood police chief, Chief Inspector Mark Holland said: "We have received a very positive response from members of the public who have come forward with information.
"We’d still like to speak to any witnesses or anybody who was on Station Road on Monday morning who may hold important information which may assist the investigation."
Collingham councillors and community representatives have been informed of the incident and are being regularly updated by the police.
Increased patrols are in place in Collingham and the opening hours of the police contact point on High Street have been extended to allow people to speak to members of the Safer Neighbourhood Team.
