Southwell Town Council submit name suggestions for streets at new 45-house development off Lower Kirklington Road
Councillors have put forward two new name suggestions for roads on a 45-house development.
Newark and Sherwood District Council approved the plans for land to the rear of The Vineries, Lower Kirklington Road, Southwell, on September 5 — which will see a mixture of detached, semi detached, and terraced properties and bungalows, with associated green spaces and a children’s play area.
The development will be accessed via a central main road, off Lower Kirklington Road, with smaller roads and driveways leading off it.
Now, councillors at Southwell Town Council have submitted two suggestions for names of roads in the development, following discussion at it’s planning and highways committee meeting on October 2.
Suggestions submitted by Peter Harris were first heard by members.
They were ‘Woodhouse Field’ for the main road, and ‘Chantry Yard’ for the smaller road to the south end of the site.
Roger Blaney said: “I like neither field nor yard. I have no problem with Woodhouse, but I would prefer Woodhouse Road.
“A yard is an enclosed area, which this is not, and I don’t think anyone would want to live in a yard. There’s also no suggestion any part of the land was a chantry.”
Gina Adams added: “I absolutely object to, when you build on a field or meadow, naming it a field or meadow… or view, when most of the views have been obstructed.”
The committee instead suggested ‘Woodhouse Road’ for the main access and ‘Holbeck Lane’ for the smaller street.
It was unanimously agreed to submit the two suggestions.
