Newark and Sherwood District Council opens new accessible toilet, changing, and showering facility the Dukeries Leisure Centre, Ollerton




A new self-contained toilet, changing, and showering facility is now open in an Ollerton leisure centre.

Funded by Newark and Sherwood District Council, the facility the Dukeries Leisure Centre will mean customers using the leisure centre who require accessible amenities will now be able to change safely and comfortably.

The new facility, which is adjacent to the swimming pool, includes horizontal and vertical grab rails, a ceiling-mounted hoist system, a height-adjustable changing table, a showering facility, an adjustable height wash basin, a colostomy shelf, a privacy screen, and an accessible, transferable toilet.

Mike Pringle, ward member for Ollerton at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said he was “really pleased” to see the new accessible facility open.

“The Leisure Centre is such an important and much-loved community facility that many within Ollerton and surrounding areas regularly use and benefit from,” he said, “It is important to us at Newark and Sherwood District Council and Active4Today to ensure that everyone can enjoy the Leisure Centre.

“Getting this new changing room in place has been an absolute priority for us so that anyone who may need accessible amenities will be able to change safely and comfortably.”

Andy Freeman, chairman of Active4Today, said: “We are really pleased to have this valuable resource for our customers, and we are sure this new facility will be greatly received and well used.

“This new self-contained changing provision continues to demonstrate the commitment Newark and Sherwood District Council has for providing community leisure facilities, which are both affordable and accessible. Active4Today welcomes this new investment and is looking forward to welcoming its first users very soon.”
