New Stokes Tea and Coffee café agt Beaumond Cross in Newark “will breathe fresh life into the town” says Newark and Sherwood District Council
A new café has the potential to breathe “fresh life into the town” as a council continues in its efforts to attract more visitors into Newark.
The popular Lincolnshire-based coffee supplier and café proprietor, Stokes, have brought their award-winning teas and coffees to Newark with the opening of their newest location on Robin Hood Walk.
The new shop, which opened today (November 18), is located in one of the Newark and Sherwood District Council owned units at the Beaumond Cross development.
In 2021 work began on transforming the site — which was previously run-down and neglected — with the re-development of the former Robin Hood Hotel into the Travelodge Hotel, and three commercial units
Since then the council have worked on attracting new tenants which benefit the town, with Stokes now occupying the final empty unit.
Claire Penny, the council’s portfolio holder for economic development, said: “The opening of this store is great news for residents of Newark.
“It will breathe fresh life into the town and add to our already excellent array of independent coffee shops and restaurants in the heart of our town.
"We’ve worked hard in bringing in family-oriented and independent business to Newark which add that personal touch when visitors shop here.
“They’re also leading the way in using environmentally friendly techniques to bring an excellent product to our high street.”
As a family business, Stokes sources, roasts, blends and supplies all of their own coffee across all five our their coffee shops, and the Newark shop will be unique with an on-site coffee roaster roasting all the bean in front of guests, ready to be served coffee served.
Nick Peel, Stokes managing director, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening a brand-new Stokes café in Newark.
“Having been a long-standing business in Lincolnshire, roasting and serving coffee since 1902, we’re looking forward to joining the Nottinghamshire community.”
