New carol to be premiered at Newark Parish Church Christmas service

A brand new carol will be performed at the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service in Newark Parish Church on Sunday.

Come Thou Redeemer Of The Earth has been composed by Emma Davies. She is a graduate from Durham University and is now the composer in residence at the church and a trainee music teacher at the Magnus Church of England Academy.

The service will start at 5pm and will feature the church choir.

It will begin with the traditional solo verse of Once in Royal David's City.

The Director of Music, Dr Sephen Bullamore, said it will be a glorious traditional service.

"For me, the Festival of Nine lessons and Carols is both the start and the heart of Christmas," he said.

"It is a traditional service, we keep the tradition alive by renewing the music we sing.

"Emma's new piece is a luminous work, which the choir are greatly enjoying learning and we hope that the residents of Newark will take the opportunity to join us to hear its world premiere performance."
