New promotional website and video content created by Newark and Sherwood District Council to boost awareness of everything great the district has to offer

A new promotional website and video content created by Newark and Sherwood District Council aims to boost awareness of what the area has to offer.

The online site that features events, attractions and venues in Newark, in Southwell and in Sherwood Forest, was showcased at the district council economic development committee.

It is not yet ready to go live.

The destination brands — Visit Newark, Visit Southwell and Visit Sherwood Forest — were described by the committee as encouraging for the economy of each area.

Members approved a proposal in March to create a new online presence for the district's tourism brands and attractions.

Although the council has not announced the date in which the professionally-designed sites, which are individually-branded and linked to one-another, will go live, it hopes to achieve a user-friendly and personalised experience where visitors can create their own itinerary.

Mathew Skinner, a committee member, said the websites were mobile-friendly and would motivate people to visit each area.

This view was echoed by Roger Blaney, however, he said there should be captions accompanying the promotional video content.

"I think it is excellent and I have been told there is music accompanying the website, however, I think captions may be necessary," he said.

Member of the council Laurence Goff said in order to encourage people to visit, a park and ride service would need to be developed for people who do not drive.

"We need more facilities for buses and providers like Travel Wright to get into our town," Mr Goff said.
