New furniture store Yourhome to open this weekend in former Holdens unit at Beaumond Cross, Newark

A new furniture store is to open this weekend in the former Holdens premises in Newark town centre.

The managing director of the business, Yourhome, is David Tilbury, who was the store manager at Holdens for the past four years. The Holden family have said they hope people will support him.

David has taken over the store, which closed at the end of January, along with a business partner.

Between them, they have more than 60 years of experience in retailing and furniture delivery.

The Holdens store, at Beaumond Cross, went into liquidation five weeks ago and has been closed since.

“It was a massive shock the day we learnt that Holdens were to close,” David said.

“But, off the back of bad times, something good has happened.”

He said jobs were being created at the new store, which was more good news for the town.

“Everybody I have spoke to about thinks it is brilliant — and it means there won’t be another big empty shop unit in the town.”

The store will open with a clearance sale on Saturday, with an official opening on Easter Saturday.

“We have a lot of ex-display and warehouse stock to clear at massively reduced prices to make room for all the new lines coming into store over the next few weeks,” David said.

“We will also be having an official opening on Saturday, April 11, with many special offers and giveaways over the Easter weekend."

The store’s slogan is Furniture For All, and David said he would continue to offer the quality furniture that Holdens was known for, as well as introducing middle-market ranges.

He has already been in contact with existing Holdens customers.

The Holden family said: “After over 100 years and five generations serving the people of Newark and the surrounding area, a combination of circumstances have brought to an end the involvement of the Holden family in selling home furnishings.

“We would like to thank our loyal and supportive customers for trusting us with their purchases over the years.

“We hope you will continue to support David and his staff as he strives to take the business forward and that you will help him to make a success of this venture.”
