East Bridgford Drama Group has recently changed its name to East Bridgford and Bingham Drama Group (EBBDG)
After expanding its ranks to include members from a nearby town, a group of thespians is urging more people to join their ranks.
The East Bridgford and Bingham Drama Group (EBBDG) has recently changed its name to East Bridgford and Bingham Drama Group, to reflect its members from Bingham and neighbouring communities, and is urging new recruits to join the ranks.
The group was founded by a group of passionate theatre lovers as East Bridgford Drama Group in 1949, and since its inception the group has gone from strength to strength, from staging plays in a village hall to becoming a prominent amateur dramatic society in the region.
Today, it offers a number productions from genres including drama, comedy and thrillers, with recent highlights such as A Pack of Lies and The Memory of Water.
EBBDG is now keen to recruit new members, with the invitation for anyone aged 18 or over who has an interest in theatre — whether as an actor, director or behind the scenes in lighting, sound, costume or set design — to get in touch.
To offer a glimpse into its world, EBBDG will be hosting two free introductory adult workshops at the Bingham WI Hut from 7pm to 9pm on the following dates on Thursday July 3 and Tuesday July 22. For more information and to book a spot on a workshop, visit ebdg.co.uk
Guests will be given the opportunity to try some acting, meet the team, and learn about technical roles from lighting and sound to backstage support.
Spokesman for EBBDG, Geoff Soar, has been a performing for more than 50 years and met his wife Marjory when they starred in a play together, where they played a honeymooning couple!
“Amateur theatre has played a huge part in my life,” he said, “I have been a member of East Bridgford Drama group for over 20 years and it has given me so much satisfaction, directing, acting and designing.
“I have made wonderful friendships through the excellent social life; we frequently enjoy outings to the professional theatre and other amateur groups. My personal highlight and favourite role was playing Norman in all three of Alan Ayckbourn’s trilogy Norman Conquests.
“I am very exited about expanding our activities further by welcoming talent from Bingham and surrounding villages.”
