Newark and Sherwood District Council warns residents of new phone scam asking people to hand over bank details




A council is warning residents of a telephone scam urging people to hand over their bank details.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has received reports of residents receiving calls from a scam consultation company.

Scammers are asking people to provide their bank details in return for a household rates rebate.

If you receive a call like this, do not hand over any personal information and end the call.

The council has asked the public to spread the word on social media and in the community as some older residents may not have internet access.

"We’ve been made aware that some residents are receiving calls from a scam consultation company who are fraudulently asking residents for their bank details to receive a household rates rebate," said the district council.

"If you do receive a call like this please do not give them any personal information and end the call.

"If you have any friends or family who may not see this post please make them aware if possible."
