New student officer helps arrest drink-driver in Newark

A new student officer was called into action last night (Wednesday (27) in what is her first week on the job.

The officer, who helps make up Newark Police's rota three team, arrested a male who was driving without a licence and insurance.

The man in question also failed a roadside breath test, blowing nearly three times the legal limit.

The student officers attention was drawn to the speeding vehicle, which was abandoned as the driver attempted to make off on foot.

A number of officers rushed to the area and the driver was located moments later.

Newark Police said it was the third drink-driver arrested since Monday.
