New Fernwood ultrasound service aims to reduce pressure on NHS

People with aches and pains are being encouraged to take advantage of a new ultrasound service in Fernwood.

Spencer Laver set up LCL ultrasound last year to provide an alternative to services on the NHS and expensive private scans.

He offers weekly clinics at Spectrum Wellness and Performance on Fernwood Business Park and at other clinics in Lincoln and Nottingham.

“I’m offering something that’s affordable and it takes a little bit of pressure off the NHS,” Spencer said.

“At the moment, they put all their emphasis on people with serious illnesses so if you’ve got somebody that can do the less serious scans, it gives them more of an opportunity to carry on doing the things that they need to do.”

Spencer, who is registered with the Care Quality Commission, has 28 years’ experience in the ultrasound industry and has been scanning in the community for 15 years.

He can scan a range of problem areas, including the abdomen, renal, aorta, thyroid, head and neck, musculoskeletal and superficial lumps and bumps.

“I thought I would do something myself that I knew there was a gap for from working in the area,” he said.

“I can scan the area and find out the exact cause of the problem so they can be treated appropriately by a physiotherapist or their GP.”

People can refer themselves for the service and will receive a report into the potential cause of their problem on the same day.

Spencer said: “People can minimise their time either off work or from whatever they want to do.

“They can get back to their sport or get back to work sooner than they would through the NHS.”
