Inspired Newark 16-year-old raises over £1,000 for 776 Gymnastics

An inspired 16-year-old has raised more than £1,000 for her gym after two weeks of fundraising.

Maisie McDonald, of Newark, has raised £1,350 for 776 Gymnastics, on Northgate Retail Park, after walking 40 miles and competing numerous fitness challenges, such as 250 sit-ups, 250 heel raises and 250 push-ups over the last fortnight.

Kirsten Jones, head coach at the gym, said: “She is yet to decide what the money will go towards but we will either get a few smaller items for the gym or keep the funds and put it towards a new fast track which, in the world of gymnastics, is the kit that can change training in the gym.

“She has done an amazing job and she has documented and shared her journey.

“She turned 16 in May and has been with us since then and we have championed her ever since.

“For a 16-year-old to just want to do this and be positive about everything, especially after the last couple of years, it is amazing.”

Maisie said: “I cannot tell you how grateful I am. The support means so much to me and everyone at my gym.

“To think I raised that much in two weeks is amazing and I can’t express how much it means to us all.”
