Newark Business Awards, run by the Newark Advertiser, postponed until September
THE decision has been taken to postpone this year’s Newark Business Awards — but rest assured, the show will go on.
In light of the latest government advice over social distancing due to coronavirus, Iliffe Media — owner of the Newark Advertiser — believes it would be best for all involved to delay the awards ceremony.
It was due to take place in the Lady Eastwood Centre, Newark Showground, on Friday, June 19.
It will now take place at the same venue on Thursday, September 24.
“We are disappointed to have to move the awards ceremony but the safety of everyone connected with the event is our top priority,” said event organiser Sharron Marriott
“The event will still be going ahead — just a few weeks later than planned.
“We have had a great response to the nominations, even more than last year, and the quality of those entries is exceptionally high.
“It is going to be a very exciting competition.”
Nominations in the ten categories closed last week and the next stage of judging will now take place.
This involves the judges and other relevant organisations looking through all the paper submissions to decide on four finalists in each category.
These will be announced, as planned, in the Advertiser on April 9.
The next stage of judging involves judges visited the finalists and interviewing staff and employers. This will not go ahead until we know it is safe to do so.
Similarly, filming of the finalists will also be delayed.
Around 400 people are expected to attend the black-tie awards ceremony in September when the winners and specially-commended in each category will receive their prizes.
The category winners will receive a trophy made by students at Newark College.
