Newark Emmaus support worker organises litter pick to raise awareness for ‘World Homeless Day’
The support worker contacted Newark and Sherwood District Council, which provided the equipment.
Annual World Homeless Day held on October 10 is marked in different ways around the world.
A support worker at Emmaus Trust, Dave Clowes, contacted Sue Scott at Newark and Sherwood District council with the idea to litter pick on Newark streets.
The district council provided all the necessary equipment for a litter-pick.
A couple of young residents joined Dave to clean Currie-Road, Newnham Road, Lovers Lane and Northgate.
Local residents chatted to the volunteers and expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the hard work being done.
The litter pick was a way to raise awareness to the day and encourage residents to get involved and participate in the cause.
The charity appeals to people for donations or pro-bono help so that they can continue delivering their services and provide accommodation, support and training for homeless young people.
“Your support is needed to help to transform lives and to help young people to live independently,” said Nikki Burley, CEO of the Newark Emmaus Trust
“Get involved, the benefits will surely be mutual... and finally, a massive ‘thank you’ to the individuals, schools, churches, businesses and organisations that have already helped us over the past few challenging months and through this very difficult time and continue to do so.”
