Newark hairdresser hosts fundraising event for Cancer Research in grandma's name
A hairdresser from Newark is celebrating her salon’s one-year anniversary through fundraising for Cancer Research.
There will be five stylists, including salon owner Lydia Clare, working on the day at the discounted prices of £15 for washing and blow dry and £25 for a cut and blow dry.
“The reason I chose to do a charity event for cancer research is because my grandma passed away on my 40th birthday, 18 months ago, and unfortunately she never got to see the salon so I wanted to do it in memory of her, said Lydia Clare, owner of Lydia Clare Hairdressing.
The event is 9am to 6pm this Friday at the salon on Lincoln Road, and everyone will be rewarded with a 20% discount voucher for their next visit.
On the day, cakes donated by people will be on sale and there will be a raffle with a wide range of prizes, all of which will add to the money raised alongside the hairdressing services.
The prizes for the raffle include vouchers for the salon, local businesses have donated prizes too. Around 500 tickets have been sold.
There are between 20-25 bookings for the day. People who walk in on the day will get an appointment if there is space available.
“We’re just hoping to have our doors open and get as many people popping as we can, raise as much money as we can and have a fun day,” Lydia.
“We want to raise as much as possible, if we could hit £500 I’d be happy. It would be amazing to hit four figures, but I don’t know.
“Hopefully some people will just walk in and chuck some pennies in the bucket.”
