Newark’s branch of Claire’s, located in St Mark’s Place, will permanently close on Saturday
A popular Newark shop is set to close, leaving yet another gap in the high street.
It has been confirmed that the town centre’s branch of Claire’s, located in St Mark’s Place, will permanently close its doors this Saturday (September 21).
The store has been a staple of the high street in Newark since it opened in 2002, offering a range of accessories and jewellery.
A Claire’s source told the Advertiser that all remaining stock will be shipped to other stores and staff will be given the option to move store or take redundancy — staff were also only told of the decision two week ago.
The closest Claire’s stores to Newark are located in Lincoln, Nottingham, and Mansfield.
Despite rumours circulating that Newark and Sherwood District Council was involved in the decision, it was confirmed to the Advertiser that the authority does not own the building and is unaware of any future plans for the retail unit.
Claire’s head office has been approached for comment on the closure.
