Man charged with murder of partner in Newark appears at Nottingham Crown Court




A man charged with the murder of his partner in Newark appeared in court via video link today.

Vitoldas Platakis, of Victoria Street, Newark, was remanded into custody in July last year after an incident.

48-year-old Valdamara Zemaitiene was found dead on a bed inside the house with bruising on her body.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court via video link from prison, Platakis had a Russian translator and spoke to confirm his name.

Judge Gregory Dickinson QC said a trial date had been set for February 14 but that this was vacated in December last year.

Counsel agreed on an extension of the custody time limit, which will be addressed again at the next hearing.

Platakis is set to appear at Nottingham Crown Court again on Monday, May 9.
