Newark man who paid high price for stealing £3 Co-op sandwich among Nottingham Magistrates' Court listings




The theft of a sandwich left 24-year-old Connor Kelsall with a hefty price tag.

Kelsall, of London Road, Newark, admitted taking the £3 Co-op sandwich and was fined £100 by magistrates sitting in Nottingham and told to compensate the store.

He was also ordered to be detained in the courthouse for the day by way of time served.

  • Drink-driver James Sanders was fined £800 and banned from the roads for a year.

Sanders, 40, of Waltham Close, Balderton, admitted to driving with 55mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Sanders was also told to pay £165 costs.

  • A Driver who was twice the legal alcohol limit was given a suspended prison sentence.

Christopher Storr, 36, received a sentence of four months, suspended for 18 months for blowing 77mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Storr, of Nottingham Road, Bulcote, pleaded guilty and was also told to pay a fine of £600 alongside costs of £145.

The driving ban was 45 months.

  • A repeat speeding offender has lost his driver’s licence for two months.

Gavin Lee, 51, of Mickledale Lane, Bilsthorpe, was clocked at 41mph in a 30 zone.

Magistrates fined him £80 after hearing his guilty plea and also awarded him three penalty points.

They said the disqualification was obligatory due to repeat offending but reduced the length of the ban due to mitigation.

Lee argued that he’d be deprived of an HGV licence and therefore his livelihood, and a new farming business of 200 sheep that are located 15 miles away from his home, a distance he would be unable to cycle, would be lost.

  • A man who assaulted a woman in the Costa on Stodman Street, Newark, and stole her phone was fined £750 and mad the subject of a restraining order.

Matthew Ballard, 39, of Parliament Street, Newark, admitted the offences and was told to pay the woman £100 in compensation and court costs of £160.
