Newark MP and Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick questioned over Tower Hamlets planning controversy in press briefing
Newark MP Robert Jenrick has defended his decision, as Housing Secretary, to grant permission for a £1bn London housing development proposed by a Conservative Party donor.
Mr Jenrick was asked at the daily government coronavirus briefing for response to media reports that he gave permission for the development weeks after attending a party fundraiser also attended by developer Richard Desmond.
Mr Jenrick said: "We want to build more homes in this country. We have a housing crisis and we need to get the country building — that's absolutely at the heart of the mission of this government and I think when we come out of this pandemic it will be even more true.
