Newark Advertiser reader letters: Newark needs a unique selling point

I refer to Mr Brian Clark’s letter ‘Stones Decision Needs Justifying’.

The decision regarding the Kiddey Stones is totally wrong, and I agree with Mr Clark, indeed we, the taxpayers have no idea — and neither do those who have made the decision — what the final bill will be.

Councillors are no longer listening to the people who put them in place to carry out the wishes of the taxpayer and I agree with Mr Clark, it will be us who end up paying for it in the end.

If we were a very rich town it wouldn’t be so bad, but, in keeping with so many we should be concentrating on where monies can change Newark ’s fortunes, and the future of its residents.

Mr Clark also touches on the plight of the retail sector in Newark, and again, I am so afraid that monies earmarked for the re-invigoration of Newark Market Place and town centre will be wasted trying to attract more retail businesses to Newark, rather than developing a new and exciting Newark to attract visitors and tourism by developing the uniqueness of the town and area.

Newark needs to be different from other market towns — and the Kiddey Stones will do nothing to promote the town to visitors/tourists.

My message to these people is find things that will. — Robert Campbell, Coddington.
