Newark branch of The Royal British Legion to launch Poppy Appeal on Tuesday, October 22

The Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal will be launched in Newark next week.

From Tuesday (October 22), residents will be able to show their support for the armed forces charity by picking up a poppy to wear and offer a donation.

The Legion’s Newark branch will be handing out donation boxes to businesses, schools, and organisations in the town to help support the charity over the next three weeks.

Remembrance Sunday services will take place on Sunday, November 10, with an Armistice Day ceremony to be observed at 11am the following day.

This year will have particular poignance as the nation commemorated the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the Battle of Arnhem, two major second world war events.

Last year’s appeal raised over £49,400 for the charity, which supports veterans, active members of the armed forces, and their familes.

Final details of Remembrance services will be published closer to the date.
