Nine charities from across the East Midlands got a much-needed cash boost when they received a total of £42,114 from The Star Trust charity.

They included CASY and the Children’s Bereavement Centre at Newark.

Star Trust, which raises money to donate to small to medium-sized East Midlands-based charities, donated the proceeds from its annual fundraising ball at Stapleford Park Hotel.

The nine selected charities received cheques at a handover at luxury car showroom of Bentley Leicester.

Star Trust chairman Mr Steve Hampson, a local businessman, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to organise this mass presentation of donations for the first time ever.

“With the generosity of the Star Trust annual ball attendees, we were able to raise monies to donate to nine individual charities providing some amazing work in the region.

“We were able to utilise the stunning showrooms of Bentley and Lamborghini Leicester to host the presentation and as always we are appreciative of their kind support and assistance in making the event possible.

“Overall, it was a wonderful opportunity to get multiple charities together and we were delighted to see that they used the opportunity to discuss common issues they face and meet one another for the first time.”

The annual ball raised £123,000 and was sponsored by Bentley and Lamborghini Leicester.

As well as CASY and the Children’s Bereavement Centre, the other charities to benefit were The Lenton Centre, The University of Nottingham Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre, Variety — The Children’s Charity, Happy Days Children’s Charity, The Ear Foundation, First Step and Jericho Road Project.

The nine charities will use the funds to support numerous individual great local causes across the region.

The Star Trust is set to raise further funds this year with a family fun day in Leicestershire on May 11, and a supercar motoring day in Derbyshire on June 3.

Its annual ball will again be held at Stapleford Park on November 9.

Star Trust has been donating to East Midlands-based charities for more than four years, having given more than £567,000 to 57 charities in the region.
