A nine-year-old fundraised for Beaumond House Hospice Care as the charity supported her grandad through his last days at his house in Balderton
A 9-year-old girl sold handmade jewellery to donate money to a charity that provides supportive palliative care to patients and their families.
Masie, 9, donated £210 to Beaumond House Hospice Care after running up and down fairs and Christmas events with her mother selling handmade jewellery.
Maisie’s grandfather, Michael was supported by the charity in November 2021.
At the peak of covid-19, Michael was concerned about the country going back into lockdown and didn’t want to go into the hospice in case his family were unable to visit.
Instead, he chose to receive end-of-life care at home in Balderton, where he spent his last days surrounded by his family. Three weeks later, his wife died.
Maisie wanted to support the charity and while on holiday in Amble, Northumberland with the family, she collected sea glass that had been washed up on the beach and decided to use it to make some jewellery.
The mother and daughter told their family’s story to a lot of customers at the different events they attended.
“I want to help other children’s Grandads, or Grandparents get the help they need,” said Maisie.
Maisie has sold pieces in the area and has also taken orders that have been shipped not only across the UK but internationally too.
Balderton Parish councillor, Joy Sellars said: “Maisie is an inspiration who has chosen to give something back to her local community, in hope that this makes a difference to another person facing the end-of-life.
“Well done, Maisie.”
