Reader’s letter: No end in sight

Once again I wish to complain about the state of the road surface on the main A616 at Wellow.

While accepting the present weather conditions might not be helping this main A1 emergency route, this stretch of road has been neglected for years by Nottinghamshire County Council.

We have recently had two sets of roadworks from various energy providers and I can honestly say this road surface is now worst than ever I have seen in the 25 years I have lived in the village .

As we enter the winter months I would formally like to express even greater concerns about the collapse of this road over winter .

Pot holes have been marked and re-filled to no avail at tremendous costs to the rate payer but the underlying cause is never tackled of resurfacing .

Damage to vehicles — if this road is allowed to collapse totally, where do we stand with insurance claims against VIA and the council?

We all need to use our road systems in rural area without trains, etc

I really feel nationally we should be going for a name and shame policy on the worst roads in Britain on all social media sites/newspapers warning drivers of exactly what conditions they are likely to face this coming winter if Nottinghamshire council resurfacing services aren't improved. — C. YOUNG, Wellow.
