Newark Town Council raised no objections to plans to convert The Watermill pub, Millgate, Newark, into flats
No objections have been raised over plans to convert a former pub into flats.
Newark Town Council’s planning committee discuss an application for the former grade-two listed The Watermill pub on Millgate, Newark.
The plans would see the main pub building turned into four flats, and three additional cottages would be built to the rear in the existing car park.
Demolition of a rear outbuilding is also being sought to facilitate these works.
Members of the committee raised no objections to the plans, subject to support from a district conservation officer.
Committee chairman Lisa Geary said that the plans were a “good use” for the site, and that they were in keeping with the conservation area.
Other councillors added that they thought the proposed flats were of a “decent size”, which was welcomed.
The plans also received the backing of the Millgate Conservation Society, who praised the application for finding “a new purpose for a historic asset” and the new builds to the rear would be on brown field land.
The planning committee raised no objections to the application. A final decision will be made by Newark and Sherwood District Council.
