At today's press conference Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed Christmas coronavirus laws would remain the same, but warned rules allowing three households over the festive period was a maximum number, not a target.
Mr Johnson said he did not want to criminalise people, but urged the public to think long and hard about what they could do to continue to keep their loved ones, especially the vulnerable, safe.
Professor Chris Whitty gave four key points:
- Keep it small — less transmission
- Keep it short — less risk of transmission occurring
- Keep it local — travel from high to low incidence areas have more risk of passing on the virus
- Think of the most vulnerable people
He said: "That way we can reduce the risk of Christmas. We all accept there’s a risk at Christmas, but if we do this we can reduce that risk."
