Captain Tom inspires six-year-old from Ollerton to raise funds for the NHS
A six-year-old who learnt to ride her bike during lockdown is now cycling up to 16 miles a day to raise money for the NHS.
Luan Henson, proud mum of Isla, said Captain Tom was the inspiration behind the charity challenge.
“We have been following what he has been doing and learning his story and, because of that, she wanted to do something,” said Luan.
Isla, of Ollerton, a pupil at Kneesall Primary School, started learning to ride her bike last summer, but revisited it during lockdown.
“She couldn’t do anything other than the length of the drive, but we have picked it and now she is going out, riding one-handed and cycling 16 miles in a day,” said Luan.
The original target was 100 miles in May, with a fundraising goal of £100 for NHS Charities, but that has been smashed.
Isla has mostly cycled with her dad, but sometimes goes with her sister, Devon, 7, and brother Ryley, 15.
