THE first fundraising group for Beaumond House Community Hospice has been launched in Southwell.

The group has been formed by Mrs Pauline Rowse, of Burgage, Southwell; Mrs Marie Legg of The Ropewalk, Southwell; Mrs Liz Cousins of Station Road, Bleasby; and Mrs Lesley Hare of Gravelly Lane, Fiskerton.

They decided to help after hearing a talk by the events co-ordinator of the Newark-based hospice, Mrs Liz Norton.

Both Mrs Hare’s parents died at the hospice.

She said: “Beaumond House has to raise such a lot of money every year. We wanted to do something in the Southwell area for the hospice.”

To mark the group’s launch, drinks and canapés were served in the Minister Centre Refectory on Saturday.

Around 50 people attended the event, which included a tombola raffle.

The evening raised more than £270 for the appeal.

Mrs Hare said: “The event was really to get people aware that we exist and that we are going to be fundraising.”

Southwell now joins Collingham, Coddington and Newark as having groups dedicated to raising money for Beaumond House.

Mrs Norton said: “It was a lovely evening and it was a great start for the group. Everyone was very supportive.

“We need to raise roughly £300,000 a year for the hospice so we are very grateful for any help we receive.”
