Members of the public helped intervene and thankfully retrieved the purse, but the man ran away from the scene.

The next day the man was spotted and arrested by the officers.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Moore is leading the investigation.

He said: "This must have been a frightening experience for the woman, but thanks to the members of the public she didn't suffer any injury and she was able to recover her purse.

“We believe a group of men worked in the local Curry’s PC World or nearby, so we are keen to speak to them and thank them for their efforts.

"The man screeched his bike tyres behind her and grabbed her purse out from her bag.

"I'd like to praise the woman who has been left shaken from the event. She tried her best to keep hold of the handbag straps, but the offender pulled her to the ground.

"The following day local officers spotted the man on Bar Gate and after seeing police, he made off on a push bike into town.

"Within no more than a few minutes the entire church gardens and surrounding area of the town was contained forcing the offender to go on foot.

"He was again sighted by another officer who gave chase and updated his location. The man was found hiding in a bush and arrested.

"The man remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of robbery.”
