Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue open applications for on-call firefighter recruitment, with positions are available across 16 fire stations in Nottinghamshire include fire stations in Newark, Southwell, Bingham, Collingham, Tuxford, and Blidworth
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has announced a new on-call firefighter recruitment drive.
Applicants can take the first steps towards a career in firefighting today (Monday, March 10) as the application window has officially opened.
Candidates now have three weeks to apply before the recruitment period slams shut.
Interested applicants can become a paid on-call firefighter while in full-time employment, with permission from their employer.
Recruits need to live and work within a five-minute distance from the service’s station to respond to emergency calls in the area.
On-call firefighters can get called out from either their places of work or homes to attend incidents.
Positions are available across 16 fire stations in Nottinghamshire — these include fire stations in Newark, Southwell, Bingham, Collingham, Tuxford, and Blidworth, as well as further afield in Ashfield, Warsop, Worksop, Harworth, Misterton, Retford, Stapleford, Eastwood, Hucknall and East Leake.
Candidates then go through a strict selection process including interviews, fitness tests, medical and background checks, and other assessments.
There are five different contracts on offer for on-call firefighters, including 30 hours, 54 hours, 85 hours, 110 hours or 120 hours per week.
They include day and night, weekdays and weekend working hours.
Applicants will be asked what hours they can cover each week, but these depend on the fire stations and what hours they need covering. Applications close one minute before midnight on April 1.
A spokesperson from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our main aim is to have fire crews available 24/7 across the whole of Nottinghamshire, therefore we are looking for people who can provide cover both day and night, weekdays and weekends.
“Becoming an on-call firefighter within Nottinghamshire is a rewarding role – not only do you have the chance to be part of an essential team who saves lives in everything they do, but you also gain the flexibility of working around personal commitments.”
