On familiar ground

A full-time community groundsman has been appointed in Southwell.

Mr Steven Eyre (40) of Crompton Road, Bilsthorpe, has been employed by Southwell Town Council. He started work on Monday.

Mr Eyre (pictured above) is responsible for maintaining green spaces and community areas owned by the council, including the Burgage and War Memorial Park.

Mr Eyre said: “I will be maintaining the sports pitches and keeping the community areas nice and clean.

“I’d like to make the town a place to be proud of, keep things clean and tidy for people in the town and make it a nice place for people to visit.”

Mr Eyre was a grounds maintenance worker at Kings Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield, for ten years.

“I only live ten minutes down the road so I’m fairly familiar with Southwell and I’m looking forward to getting to know the local community,” he said.
