London-born artist Tom Vek to perform at Nottingham’s music venue Bodega in October
A one-man-band artist is celebrating an album’s 10th anniversary with new tracks released and ventures back into the live arena.
London-born Tom Vek, who combines indie rock with electronica, punk with dance and funk with grunge, released Luck (Deluxe 10-Year Anniversary Edition) on September 6.
To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Luck, he releases a deluxe version of the album and is about to head off on his most extensive run of UK shows since the original album’s release in 2014.
This year, Tom ventured back into the live arena, with his first shows outside of London for 10 years, and an EP — Confirm Yourself — that reflected a more live, raw rock-influenced sound, akin to where he started nearly 20 years earlier with his debut We Have Sound.
The tour starts in Bristol on October 2 and will unveil from there, with a mandatory stop at Nottingham venue Bodega on October 6. Tickets can be found on the artist’s website.
Following the wave of critical acclaim for We Have Sound in 2005, he returned some six years later with Leisure Seizure, pre-empted by the single ‘Aroused’.
In 2020, the self-released fourth album, New Symbols made its appearance during Covid.
The album was accompanied by a foray into music hi-fi hardware, the Sleevenote music player device he had designed that celebrated artwork for digital music collectors.
The project was an extension of Tom’s long-running passion for promoting the impact and beauty of music cover art with the Sleevenote platform.
His enthusiasm for music tech innovation continued with the launch in 2023 of Supercollector.
The platform offers a new value for music in an era of much frustration around the models that fail to support artists, and which push fans back towards traditional music formats.
Luck, originally released on the revered independent label Moshi Moshi, contains the masterful single — Sherman (Animals In the Jungle), Broke and what is perhaps the inspiration for the album — Pushing Your Luck.
