Ossington House opens gardens for National Garden Scheme

Visitors headed to an open garden to enjoy the scenery and raise money for a host of good causes at the same time.

Ossington House gardens were open to the public last weekend as part of the National Garden Scheme.

The Vicarage garden, redesigned in 1960 and again in 2014, has sweeping lawns, formal beds and terraces. There are herbaceous perennials, roses and kitchen garden are all highlights, alongside a woodland walk with mature trees and shady planting with masses of astrantia, and ferns.

Another garden is open to the public this weekend for the National Garden Scheme, which raises money for nursing and health charities.

5 Burton Lane, Whatton (NG13 9EQ) is open 11am to 4pm on Sunday.

An organic cottage-style garden which is productive, highly decorative and wildlife friendly, it is full of colour from spring to autumn. It has several distinctive areas, including fruit and vegetables. There are large beds filled with more than 600 varieties of plants with paths you can wander and get close.

Plants and refreshments will be for sale.

However, Caunton Manor will not open as advertised on Saturday. It follows flooding at the site earlier this year that caused structural damage to the garden infrastructure.
