Reader’s letter: Our town deserves better

How I wish Bildurn would stop implying that by turning the Lilley & Stone site in Newark into yet another housing development they are doing our lovely old market town and its people a favour.

The anti-social behaviour only worsened when the Advertiser were invited to feature photos and an article on the empty school.

Others with imagination and vision for the site offered help and suggestions but were ignored.

To say the trustees exhausted every sinew must have amused and frustrated those who wanted to improve the site to benefit the people of the town.

All concerns raised regarding the impact of another housing development and one so close to the town centre would have on the already congested traffic, the overwhelmed hospital, GP surgeries and schools were also ignored.

The area already has a problem with pollution too.

Isn't it time we put the wishes of the people before profit and greed and before it is too late.

Our town deserves better and so do the people living here. – J. WESELBY, Newark.
