Steve Watson says today's outdoor auction by Northgate Auction Rooms was the third to be cancelled in the last ten years

For only the third time in the last decade, an auctioneer has cancelled a day of trading.

This morning's outdoor auction, by Northgate Auction Rooms, was called off by Newark and Sherwood District Council because of a flooding risk.

Steve Watson, the auctioneer at Northgate Auction Rooms, said it was the first cancellation since September 2017, when the Tour of Britain passed through Newark.

He recalled the time before that to be in December 2010, when heavy snow caused traffic problems in the town, again forcing him to cancel the auction.
