Plans for 45 homes on land off Lower Kirklington Road, Southwell, approved despite flooding concerns

Concerns about access and flooding were raised by councillors discussing an outline plan for 45 homes, but they went on to approve it.

The application, by seven people including Sir John Starkey, is for land at the rear of The Vineries, off Lower Kirklington Road, Southwell.

Newark and Sherwood District Council planning committee was told the site was in an area already outlined for residential use.

Access would be near the junction with Kirklington Road, where a mini-roundabout would be built.

A draft layout shows 14 affordable homes and 31 market value homes. Nine of the 45 are bungalows.

Two councillors for the area, Penny Rainbow and Malcolm Brock, were concerned the mini-roundabout would not be safe and had reservations about how effective two planned attenuation ponds would be in draining the site.

Asked if the access could be moved, officers said the access had been suggested by the council so it would be unreasonable to ask the applicant to change it.
