Parents with children starting secondary school in Nottinghamshire in 2020 have days left to apply for a place online

Parents of children due to start secondary school in Nottinghamshire in September 2020 have a few days left to apply online for a place.

Across Nottinghamshire, more than 2,300 families had not applied for a school place by the middle of October.

The application process for children transferring from primary schools to secondary schools in September 2020 closes at midnight, Thursday, October 31.

Nottinghamshire residents must apply through the county council, even for schools in other areas.

The council’s service director for education, learning and skills, Marion Clay, said: “Applying within the deadline and listing more than one preferred school is key. Parents must understand that listing only one school does not increase the chances of being offered a place at that school. And it is not too late — parents can make changes to their preferences and application up until the deadline.

“The good news is that last year almost 98% of families who applied on time for a secondary school place were offered one of their preferred schools.”

If parents miss the October 31 deadline, their application will be processed after all the on-time applications.

Secondary school offers will be made on Monday, March 2, 2020.
