Newark Parkrun set for summer anniversary as it moves on from covid-19 lockdowns
Newark Parkrun will celebrate its ninth anniversary this summer following a successful return from covid-19 lockdown.
Bob White, event director, said participation levels had exceeded expectation following its return, and hoped the weekly event would continue to thrive ahead of its anniversary in June.
“We are averaging around 180 participants per week,” said Bob.
“Not everybody came back initially, but we gained some new members after covid as well because people enjoyed running or walking during lockdown.
“We still remind people that covid is around and we are lucky that we can space out at the park.
“We have been well supported by Notfast, Newark Striders and Newark Athletic Club.
“Although it is not a race, some like to have competitions and we have some very fast finishing times.
“Others use it as a social jog or walk around.”
More than 20 volunteers help run the free event, which takes place every Saturday at 9am at Sconce and Devon Park.
