Partnership with local GPs starting to pay off

Work in the community, with local partners and GPs is ensuring Newark patients receive more medical services on their doorstep.

Ken Lee of Barnby Road, Newark, said he felt the hospital offered a great service .

His son Joseph, 5, had an operation at King's Mill Hospital to have his tonsils and adenoids removed but follow-up appointments have been at Newark.

"It is a lovely clean hospital and only took us 15 minutes to get here despite the roadworks," said Ken.

"I think it is a fantastic hospital and very important to the town."

Lynn Chapman of Newark used to travel 48 miles every week to receive treatment for her rheumatoid arthritis. She can now be treated at Newark.

"I used to get picked up in the morning by the hospital transport and often didn't get home until late afternoon," she said.

"It was a 45 minute journey to get there and sometimes I had to wait to get taken back, so it could be a whole morning just to receive a five minute injection.

It makes a huge difference to be able to have the injection here at Newark, as it only takes me ten minutes to get here and get back home again."

Engineer and retained fireman Mark Jones has been using the hospital for the past year and travels from his home in Waddington.

"Family members have used Newark Hospital for many years," he said.

"It is friendly and personal and you get seen quickly."

He has been able to use the hospital for consultations for extreme pains in his toes and his right heel and need to have pain-killing injections which can be done at Newark.

"I would recommend this hospital to anybody," he said. "It is super quick from consultation to referral."
