Newark Town Council agreed to give people a voice on transport issues

A council agreed to give the people of Newark a voice on transport issues in the town.

Councillor Paul Taylor proposed a resolution to set up a transport sub-committee at Newark Town Council, but it didn’t get enough votes.

The council, however, decided that the Environment Stewardship Sub-Committee would take the lead on giving the people of Newark a voice in transport issues.

Paul Taylor said: “The county council has responsibility for transport issues but it is clear that the town council needs to put pressure on them to do their job.

“We just need to look at the amount of potholes on our roads, the lack of public transport in Newark and many more issues including pedestrian zones being ignored.

“If the town council puts pressure on the County Council we might be able to get some of these issues resolved.

“If Newark’s Nottinghamshire County Councillors see the town council taking an interest in transport issues they might start showing an interest in meeting Newark’s transport needs.”

People who are concerned about transport issues in Newark can contact their town councillor or the town clerk and ask for the sub-committee to look into the issue.

Nottinghamshire County Council has been approached for comment.
