Transform Middlebeck applies to move personal training studio to Jessops Park unit on Newark’s industrial estate

A personal training gym has sought a new home on an industrial estate.

Transform Middlebeck has applied to change the use of a unit on Jessops Park, Jessop Close, to a one-to-one personal training studio.

The business has been based at Fernwood for 13 years, but is now looking for a new home due to “an expiring lease, increased rental costs, and a planned company restructuring” — as well as it being able to own its own premises.

Transform Middlebeck offers personalised training for individuals of all ages and fitness levels in appointment-only sessions.

Its second small group training studio at Middlebeck will continue to operate.

The unit is proposed to include an open plan training area and WC, with no external alterations, and would be operating between 6am and 8pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 10am on Saturday.

The out-of-town location has a small provision of parking allocated to the unit, which documents state would be more suitable for the business’ “clients with disabilities and challenging needs that require direct/ easy access to the facility without the anxiety of looking for parking and transfer”.

There will also be cycle storage and clients will be encouraged to use cycle routes to access the studio where possible — including the owners Craig and Nathan Allwood — documents explained.

Newark Town Council considered the application on May 28.

Lynn Roulstone said: “Apparently they were in Fernwood before and had to move… I’m not sure this is the right location for them.

“Other businesses have said there’s limited parking.”

Matthew Skinner supported the application and added: “What they do is really good.”

It was agreed the council would lodge no objection to the application, which will be decided by Newark and Sherwood District Council at a later date.
