The RSPCA is appealing for information after two chinchillas were found dumped on a playing field in Boughton.

The pair, named Salt and Pepper by staff at the RSPCA’s Radcliffe animal shelter, were found in a soggy cardboard box in the middle of the field early on March 8.

They are now doing well at the animal shelter and will soon be looking for a new home.

RSPCA inspector Keith Ellis said: “These two animals were lucky to still be alive after spending several hours in cold and wet weather.

“Owners really need to start realising that they have a legal responsibility to care for their animals and not just dump them when they tire of them.”

Anyone with information about the chinchillas can ring 0300 1234 999 in confidence.
