Photographer David Townshend transforms photos of Norfolk Coast into vibrant and abstract art in exhibition at Gallery 6, Stodman Street, Newark

An exhibition is taking familiar locations and transforming them into bright and vibrant abstract art.

Photographer David Townshend is now displaying his abstract photography in a new solo exhibition at Gallery 6, on Stodman Street, running until September 28.

The exhibition takes an abstract look at images of the Norfolk Coast, playing around with colours and shapes, textures and light, in a unique process.

Townshend’s aim was to create a variety of sensations and moods, with what at first appears to be randomly painted shapes and blocks of colour, on closer inspection is actually interwoven aspects of photographed fishing boats, buildings, and coastal plants.

Gallery owner Melanie Anderson said: “A lot of people know this part of the coast very well, and so the photos challenge our expectations of what we know, but also provide a sense of familiarity.”

The gallery is open from 10.30am to 4pm, Wednesdays to Saturdays.
