A pianist entertained Bingham shoppers in the bitter cold for five hours on Saturday to raise money for charity.

Mrs Sue Lockwood, 57, of Douglas Road, kept her fingers warm by playing a medley of popular Christmas tunes, carols and secular pieces to raise money for Smile Train.

Mrs Lockwood, a member of Bingham Methodist Church, played outside the church hall from 8am to 1pm and was supplied with hot food and drink throughout by husband Ian.

Despite the temperature not reaching above minus 2ºC, there were plenty of shoppers out who showed their support.

Mrs Lockwood has been playing the piano to raise money for Bingham Methodist Church’s chosen charities for the last few years and on Saturday raised £276.62.

Weather permitting, she hopes to play again this morning.

Smile Train helps children in developing countries with cleft lips and palates get the surgery they need.
