Pipe work plans

Work is being planned to replace 150 metres of water mains that run under King Street, Southwell.

Severn Trent discovered a problem with the pipes when they were called out to repair a burst main two weeks ago.

Pipes under the busy street burst when water was diverted from other areas of the town where there had been problems with the mains.

Some businesses, including Southwell Library, were closed for a time because of the problem.

The matter was discussed at Southwell Town Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.

The committee chairman, Mr Brendan Haigh, said: “It is most unfortunate but obviously it has to be done. I hope the shopkeepers will get advance notice.

“I also hope that Severn Trent will pay for the resurfacing and replacement of the highway.”
